CELEBRITY

Bea Miller on her EP, Young Blood

Bea Miller talks about what it was like touring with our cover celebrity, Demi Lovato, her first thought of Demi when she was a contestant on the second season of the hit Fox TV show, The X-Factor, her new EP, Young Blood, and moonlighting as a dog whisperer. Bea’s full length album will release this spring.

GLITTER: What’s it like touring with Demi Lovato?
BEA: It’s amazing touring with demi. When I was younger I knew the words to all her songs so it’s surreal to be opening for her. She’s so talented; it’s ridiculous.

GLITTER: What was your first thought of Demi when you were a contestant on the second season of The X-Factor?
BEA: “She’s so pretty.”

GLITTER: You just released your debut EP, “Young Blood.” What kind of music can fans expect to hear?
BEA:  I like to say my music is pop with an edge. None of my songs are super happy, they’re more about accepting that bad stuff does happen and life isn’t all good but then empowering you to push past it. Plus, I have what I like to call an anti-love-song on there, which I think is funny because it’s so opposite of most pop songs. All of my songs are really true to who I’m and that’s important to me because that makes it easy to connect with my fans.

GLITTER: What inspired you to write “Young Blood”?  Tell us about the music video for “Young Blood,” how did you come up with the concept?
BEA: I actually only wrote the bridge of “Young Blood,” but when I first heard the demo of the song I fell in love with it because I connected to every single word; and I knew that if the lyrics spoke to me, they could speak to other people my age. The video is very dark because I wanted to highlight what most people don’t talk about. I think it’s important to say that life will knock you down and make you feel horrible sometimes because when this happens everyone feels like they are alone and like no one else has gone through what they’re experiencing. The reason they think that is because no one ever talks about the worse parts of life. I think it’s good to admit that bad things will happen but then say you are not alone because we all understand and you can get yourself through it.

GLITTER: When did your fascination for the creative process begin?
BEA: When I was younger I used to write scripts and make my little sister’s act out the plays for my parents. So I guess I have always been interested in the creative process.

GLITTER: What is your ideal first date?
BEA: I like simple. An ideal first date for me would be hanging out at one of our houses, cuddling on the couch while watching a movie. No big romantic gestures because I think that’s corny and overrated.

GLITTER: Favorite pick-up line?
BEA: I’m not even cool enough to think of a pick-up line off the top of my head.

GLITTER: Is it true that you moonlight as a dog whisperer?
BEA: Yes.

GLITTER: Now that you can drive, where is your favorite place to go for inspiration?
BEA: Well, I actually only have my permit right now so the only place I ever really drive to is the supermarket with my uncle, but I love walking to the park near my house and sitting on top of the slide while the sun sets. I feel so alone with my thoughts there.

GLITTER: Do you have any projects coming up that you can share with your fans?
BEA: I have a full length album coming out in early 2015; and I’m very excited about it because I’ve been waiting for what feels like an eternity to release it.

GLITTER: How can your fans follow you?
BEA: Twitter is where I’m most active, which is @beamiller and my Instagram is the same name.
