GLITTER: How long have you been competing and what was the road like to Miss Universe?

PAULINA: I have not been competing for very long, actually. I was named Miss Atlántico 2013 and then won Miss Colombia 2013. I was to have a year-long reign as Miss Colombia until the Miss Universe Pageant. It has been a whirlwind journey that I am very thankful for. Getting to represent my country is an honor.

GLITTER: How do you feel to have such an amazing title?

PAULINA: I’m so honored. The Miss Universe Pageant is such a big deal in my country—it’s even bigger than the World Cup! I recently had my homecoming in Colombia and really saw the joy that this title brings people. It made me realize even more how hard I want to work this year and leave a positive mark.

GLITTER: What would you like people to know about you, that they may not already know?

PAULINA: I want people to know that I am also a student and that education is very important to me.  I was studying business administration before I won Miss Universe. It has always been my goal to run a large company that exports Colombian products. I definitely plan to finish my degree after my reign is over.

GLITTER: How far did you have to travel to compete in MISS UNIVERSE?  What was that road like?

PAULINA: I won my title in Doral, Florida which is not too far from my country by plane.  There is also a huge Latin community there, so I felt like I had a little bit of home with me while competing.

GLITTER: What do you want people to remember you for, as MISS UNIVERSE?

PAULINA: I hope that people remember me as a Miss Universe who made a difference with causes that are not only important to me, but also to other people.

GLITTER: If you could give one word of advice to women and teens across the nation, what would that be?

PAULINA: Respect. Respect yourself, your body, others, your community and your country. Respect will bring you so far in life.

GLITTER: In what ways has the title allowed you to give back?

PAULINA: My title has given me a platform to give back in ways I never would have been able to before. I’m very proud that I was recently named La Madrina of the Latino Commission on AIDS. I am always working to spread a message of how to prevent this disease and raise awareness.

GLITTER: What’s next for you and your career?

PAULINA: Well, I am very excited for what this next year will bring for me and for my career. Being Miss Universe is a full time job that allows me to meet incredible people and be exposed to many amazing opportunities.

GLITTER: What’s a typical day like for you?

PAULINA: One of the many exciting things about my job is that there is no typical day! I travel a lot—I have already been to Chile, France, Indonesia, Italy, Canada, and Colombia so far in my reign. One day, I may have a photoshoot or media interviews and another, I may be volunteering with organizations that work to raise awareness for HIV/ AIDS.

GLITTER: For teen girls that may not feel as flawless as society sometimes appears online, what voice of encouragement can you give them?

PAULINA: I would just like those girls to know that no one is perfect and that perfection is unattainable. I want girls to know that your worth is not based on your outer beauty but rather about how you present yourself and bring out the best in everyone.

GLITTER: What does self-love mean to you?

PAULINA: Self-love means embracing all of your imperfections in order to see yourself as beautiful.

QUICKFIRE QUESTIONS:

GLITTER: What’s your ideal breakfast ritual?

PAULINA: I try to have some toast and egg whites for quick energy which usually keeps me full until lunch.

GLITTER: What song makes you get up and dance right now?

PAULINA: I like Rihanna a lot.

GLITTER: What is one of the most amazing destinations that you have traveled to and what made it so amazing?

PAULINA: Indonesia was so wonderful.  This country has so much natural beauty, it’s stunning.

GLITTER: Favorite beauty product?

PAULINA: I love almond oil. It makes my hair so shiny and keeps my skin soft.
