REAL PEOPLE: Interview with Kira Taylor
Glitter recently sat down with singer and songwriter, Kira Taylor, to talk about her latest single, how she gives back to the community, where she finds inspiration and how she doesn’t let cystic fibrosis define her. Ellen, if you’re reading this, she’d love to be one of your kid guest hosts. She’d be perfect for the job, just saying! Read on to find out more about this extremely talented singer who is an inspiration to us all!
GLITTER: How would you describe your sound?
KIRA: I would say that my sound is soulful, and has a little southern feel to it. At the same time a fun pop vibe to it also.
GLITTER: Do you play any instruments?
KIRA: I’m currently learning how to play the guitar right now. I’m also going to start learning how to play piano really soon.
GLITTER: Where do you find your inspiration?
KIRA: I’m inspired by a lot of different things. I find inspiration through actual events that have happened in my life. Also, living in Florida and seeing the beauty of this state inspires me almost every day. Additionally, standing up and making a difference for those that cannot defend themselves.
GLITTER: What was your first single that you ever released?
KIRA: My first single that I released was “Country Girl Things.” However, since my voice and range has increased since the recording, I’m exploring ideas for remixing.
GLITTER: How do you give back to your community?
KIRA: I give back to my community by volunteering at my local church with their special needs programs, Sunday morning children service, and middle school events (I’m a part of the planning committee for it). I also help give back to my community through my advocacies with Free2Luv and Kindness U and through educating people about what Cystic Fibrosis is. I just really love being able to help others and seeing people smile.
GLITTER: Do you have any celebrity crushes?
KIRA: Yes, I am a huge MAHOMIE (Austin Mahone fan) but have a slight crush on him… just a slight one. I have a crush on Ryker Lynch from R5 the band. He is such an amazing dancer and triple threat (dancer, musician, and singer) and you can tell he is a nice person.
GLITTER: I know you also have cystic fibrosis. You don’t let it define you though. What advice do you have for other teens with cystic fibrosis that also want to follow their dreams?
KIRA: I believe with hard work anything is possible. You are stronger than you think and hold the power you can use to shoot to the stars but you have to believe in yourself first.
GLITTER: Is there something about you fans would be surprised to know?
KIRA: I love to longboard when I have nothing to do it’s a lot of fun and so relaxing. I am also a super NERD… I love Star Wars, Star Trek, and Marvel Superheroes.
GLITTER: Best advice you were ever given?
KIRA: I was told to be myself and to not ever change for anyone!!
GLITTER: Is there someone you’d like to work with that you haven’t worked with already?
KIRA: I would love to have the opportunity to work with the talented music producer and filmmaker Kurt Hugo Schneider and for collaboration. Also, I would love to work with Olivia Millerschin. One day I would love to work with Ellen DeGeneres as a guest kids host on her show so I can spread awareness of Cystic Fibrosis and the Free2luv youth mission.
GLITTER: Any projects you can tell us about that you’re working on next?
KIRA: I’m preparing for my upcoming performance in Atlanta, Georgia at the Red Carpet Awards for Summer Fashion Parade 2015 and the 2015 Models Choice Awards at the beautiful Atlanta Marriott Marquis. I am currently searching for a band, creating YouTube videos to promote Free2Luv and the importance of spreading kindness since I am also a Kindness U Activist. Currently I’m working on my next cover song, and searching for a producer to help me “Remix” my first two original songs and to create the instrumentals for my third original song.
