INTERVIEW WITH ALYSON STONER ON NEW MUSIC, FAILURE, AND MUCH MORE

Glitter loves Alyson Stoner. We recently sat down with her to talk about her new single, “Pretty Girls, her most challenging role to date, her tribute video to Missy Elliott, and her pet peeves. Read on to find out more about this amazingly talented actress, singer and dancer, who takes triple-threat to the next level.

Glitter: What can you tell us about your new single, “Pretty Girls”. What was the inspiration behind it?
Alyson: Don’t be fooled by the heavy bass drop and polished vocals. “Pretty Girls” is a very conscious social statement about the power of beauty in culture and how women use it to get their way. The lyrics are about a beautiful woman warning people of their demise if they get too close, because her beauty blinds, captivates, mesmerizes, distracts, persuades. It’s also depicting the superficiality of the music industry, what it takes to sell, but how effective the formula and tricks are.

Glitter: “Pretty Girls” will also be featured in your upcoming movie, Sugar Babies. What can you tell fans about the film?
Alyson: Sugar Babies follows Katie Woods, a freshman in college who inadvertently is set up on a date with a “sugar daddy.” As life unfolds, feelings develop, hardships come, and she needs support. She must navigate the unclear nature of arranged companionships to protect her future without losing her true sense of self.

Glitter: You have a lot of new and different projects in the works that are expected to release this year. What inspired you to branch out and explore new roles in your career?
Alyson: Last year I learned the value of failure, vulnerability and honesty with myself. This year I felt compelled to push past the plateau of making same-level projects and getting the same results, same view counts, same stats. So I decided to take risks, try new roles on set (producing, directing, writing) and let myself struggle through the learning curves. So far I’ve been stretched in so many ways, but I’m continually reassured that these are precisely the stepping-stones toward breakthroughs, new heights and new levels. Failure can be a great thing!

Glitter: What has been the most challenging role for you to date?
Alyson: The most challenging role to date was portraying a homeless drug addict on TNT’s “Major Crimes”. I had to enter a very dark mentality and shift my physicality on set. I was even kicked off set twice by security because they thought I was a real addict interfering with filming.

Glitter: 2015 has only just begun and you’re already making headlines! Your tribute video to Missy Elliott went viral and reached over 13 million views! What was that experience like?
Alyson: You know, something in me just knew I was supposed to make a response. I wasn’t sure what it’d be, and we mostly flew by the seat of our pants during the shoot, but I trusted there was a greater purpose of paying tribute and sharing my love of dance and music with people.

Glitter: Can you share some news on what your new music will be like? Have you chosen your next single?
Alyson: My sound has evolved into urban pop with the new school Janet Jackson flavor that I love, plus infused with some Britney Spears dance and my own little sauce. We’re looking for classic, iconic beats that make you feel some type of way.

Glitter: What are some things your fans might not know about you? Any pet peeves or obsessions?
Alyson: Unless I’m dancing or songwriting, I heavily dislike loud music. I also do not watch TV, movies, or like any white noise throughout my day.

Glitter: What is your definition of self-love?
Alyson: Self-love could be defined as knowing that you are an emotional, physical, spiritual being with needs and feelings. That you are worth finding healthy ways to cope, regulate, and manage these parts of yourself, so you can lead a positive lifestyle and pursue your greatest dreams.

Glitter: What other projects do you have planned for the upcoming year?
Alyson: This year is going to be full of surprises. Summer Forever, the musical, will hit in August and I’ll share more of my own music. But, I’m honestly up for anything– from writing a TV series to going on tour to backpacking Europe.

Glitter:How can fans follow you?
