Coco Jones on How She Stays in Touch with her fans!
Coco Jones guest starred as an eager law intern to Holly (Kristen Johnston) on The Exes. Coco recently sat down with Glitter to talk about when she started acting, how she stays in touch with her followers, who inspires her, her favorite snack on set, and her new EP. Coco lets us in on her favorite workout as well. We love her workout and think everyone should follow suit.
GLITTER: When did you first start acting?
COCO: I started acting when I was 9 or 10; auditioning and doing little things to see if it was something I enjoyed enough to continually work for. I fell in love with it.
GLITTER: Can you tell us about your role in the Disney Channel movie, Let it Shine?
COCO: I played Roxie in the movie, Let It Shine. She’s actually a lot like me. Roxie is a singer and performer who insists on not changing for the business. Roxie was very headstrong, and didn’t want to be forced to be anything or do anything she didn’t want to. At the end of the day, she figured out how to be her true self, regardless of what people said.
GLITTER: How do you stay in touch with your 560,000 plus twitter followers and Vine viewers?
COCO: I always make time for my followers – I’m thankful for them. These are the people that support you as an artist. I have an alarm set every day to make sure I get online and say hey to my supporters.
GLITTER: Can you tell us about your guest appearance on TV Land’s The Exes?
COCO: I guest starred in The Exes as Vanessa. Vanessa is interning at Holly’s (Kristen Johnston) law firm, and later on makes a decision that somewhat flips the episode. (I won’t give it away, you have to watch to see!)
GLITTER: Can you tell us more about your new EP, Made Of?
COCO: My EP, Made Of, is a compilation of songs that mean a lot to me, I like to have a positive message in my songs, and make them upbeat and care free. These songs definitely do that.
GLITTER: What song sticks with you most on your EP and why?
COCO: The song that sticks out to me is “Holla at the DJ,” because it was my first single. It holds a lot of memories.
GLITTER: You just shot a video for your song, “Peppermint.” Where was it shot, and what was your favorite part about shooting that video?
COCO: The video was shot in Tennessee. I was glad to finally get to shoot something in my home state. The set of the basketball court goes great with the lighthearted vibe of the song. I think it worked out well.
My favorite part of the “Peppermint” video was my outfit. The pants I had on were actually my dad’s in college. He got the pants custom made to celebrate, so being able to rock them in the video made my dad so happy.
GLITTER: When will your debut album be out?
COCO: I’m currently working on my music. I want everything to be the best it can be. It will be worth the wait, I can tell you that!
GLITTER: Do you have any new upcoming event dates or collaborations set up that you can talk about yet?
COCO: I just got off tour with Cody Simpson, so I have a free moment to breathe for right now. I’m also focusing on school… I’m graduating early, so that’ll be an exciting event this summer!
GLITTER: If you could collaborate with anyone musically or professionally, who would it be and why?
COCO: If I could collaborate with anyone, it would be Beyoncé and I on the track, with Pharrell and Missy Elliott producing. That would be huge!!
GLITTER: Who inspires you the most?
COCO: I’m inspired by people who don’t change for the business… Selena Gomez, and Lupita Nyong’o, off the top of my head.
GLITTER: What do you love more: acting or singing?
COCO: Singing will always be my number one. Music feels so comfortable to me, it’s like home, but sometimes you need to get out of your comfort zone to grow.
GLITTER: What’s your favorite snack on set?
COCO: Anything salty – I love chips!
GLITTER: What’s your favorite workout?
COCO: I like to jog and do planks because both are full body workouts.
GLITTER: Favorite trend?
COCO: My fav trend is leather shirts, skirts, and shorts. They all look amazing in leather… easy and fashion forward.
GLITTER: Fav book?
COCO: Judy Blume, Tiger Eyes.
GLITTER: Fav movie?
COCO: The Fault in Our Stars!!!
