Cassi Thomson is best known for playing Nikki in ABC Family’s hit show, Switched at Birth, and this October you can see her on the big screen opposite Nicolas Cage in the new sci-fi thriller, Left Behind. Cassi recently sat down with Glitter Magazine to talk about her role as Nikki on Switched at Birth, how her character changed throughout the past season, what it was like to co-star with Nicolas Cage in the upcoming movie, her favorite football team (note: she’s a huge football fan), and the one thing she cannot live without. GLITTER: When did you first know you wanted to be an actress?
CASSI: I didn’t always know that I wanted to be an actress. My sister was the one who was originally intrigued with the idea of acting. I was involved in other things at the time, but because of her, I began acting and completely fell in love with it – the rest is history 😉
GLITTER: Who did you play on ABC Family’s Switched at Birth? Are you like your character in any way?
CASSI: I played the role of Nikki in ABC Family’s Switched at Birth. Bringing her to life was an absolute pleasure and I will always look back on that chapter of my life and smile. Nikki and I are similar in way that we are both very confident in who we are and know what we want in life.
GLITTER: How has your character changed throughout the past season?
CASSI: I think when Nikki was first introduced, she hadn’t quite found herself yet. As a viewer, you really get to watch her grow into the woman she wants to be.
GLITTER: Who was your favorite co-star to work with so far and why?
CASSI: Working with everyone was a blast! I don’t know that I really have a favorite. Although, working with Lucas was always especially fun. We had worked with each other before SAB so I had a comfort level with him that I didn’t have with anyone else until later on.
GLITTER: What was it like to co-star in a Nicolas Cage film?
CASSI: Co-staring with Nicolas Cage was a dream come true. He is one of the all-time greats. He was always on time, very professional, and obviously extremely talented. Getting to play off of him in our scenes, made my job very easy.
GLITTER: We also understand that you sing as well. Are you working on anything new that our readers can know about?
CASSI: I’m unfortunately not. Acting takes up so much of my time and energy so my singing has kind of been put on the back burner. I do still sing occasionally for various auditions and roles, but am not currently working on any new music of my own.
GLITTER: You’re a football fan correct? Are you glad that football season has started back up again? Who is your favorite team?
CASSI: I’M SO HAPPY FOOTBALL SEASON IS BACK!!! The fall is my favorite time of year. Mostly because of those men on the football field! 😉 My team are the Indianapolis Colts. I watch them every week! Never miss a game.
GLITTER: Do you have a secret crush on anyone?
CASSI: Haha! No secret crushes here. If I have a crush on you, chances are, you already know. 😉
GLITTER: If you could go back in time and change anything in your life, would you?
CASSI: I really wouldn’t. I believe that everything happens for a reason in this life. I’m grateful for everything that I’ve been through – those experiences (both good and bad) have lead me to become the woman I am today.
GLITTER: What motivates you?
CASSI: My friends and family motivate me. They’re always pushing me to become a better, stronger person. In more ways than one. I love that about them.
GLITTER: What’s one thing you cannot live without?
CASSI: My Labrador, Tucker. He’s the light of my life! 🙂
GLITTER: What’s on your iPod right now?
CASSI: Oh gosh, I listen to all kinds of music! Mostly rap though – funny enough!
