We love asking questions and we love the answers from some of our favorite authors. Today we’re talking to Lauren Oliver, author of Vanishing Girls (Mar. 10, 2015; HarperCollins).  Thank you for talking to us today, Lauren! We’re honored!

GLITTER: For those who haven’t read your work yet, how would you describe your writing style?

LAUREN: “Lyrical” is a word that I hear a lot. I’m really a language geek. I spend my free time making up metaphors. I’m really into characters–also, I’m really into describing trees. Don’t ask. I just am.

GLITTER: How does Vanishing Girls differ from your Delirium series?

LAUREN: It’s very different! It’s a realistic standalone whereas Delirium is a dystopian trilogy. At its heart, VANISHING GIRLS is a story of sisterhood and identity. But there’s romance in it too, of course.

GLITTER: What one message would you like readers to walk away with when they’re done reading Vanishing Girls?

LAUREN: I guess I hope in all of my books there’s some message of hope and forgiveness, the idea that things get better, that no one ends up broken.

GLITTER: Describe Vanishing Girls in 160 characters or less.

LAUREN: Two sisters, once inseparable, are devastated after a near-fatal accident that leaves one of them scarred. Secrets and lies are exposed. Read it!

GLITTER: Did you always want to be an author? Did you ever feel like giving up? Did you receive rejection letters in the beginning? How did you get over them?

LAUREN: I always knew I would write. I’ve been writing since I was a little kid. In my early twenties I wrote several manuscripts that were never published–but no, I never felt like giving up. I don’t even think I could give up writing, physically. It would be like trying to give up eating. I might make it a day or two but then I’d collapse!

GLITTER: What are you currently working on?

LAUREN: I’m working on a new teen book, and a new adult book!
