INTERVIEW WITH DYLAN GARDENER
Glitter recently sat down with singer, Dylan Gardener, to talk about his debut album, Adventures in Real Time, his father, who is also a musician, where he finds inspiration, and how Team Coco came across his “Let’s Get Started” video. GLITTER: Tell us about your new album, Adventures in Real Time.
DYLAN: Adventures in Real Time is my debut album released on Warner Brothers this January, and it’s a collection of 10 fun energetic songs all written by myself. It’s co-produced with Jack Drag/Submarines member John Dragonetti and we play all the instruments. It’s available in record stores across the country and also on iTunes and Spotify!
GLITTER: Do The Beatles inspire your songwriting?
DYLAN: Yes. The Beatles inspired everybody’s songwriting in one way or another, whether you like them or not.
GLITTER: How did Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco come across your “Let’s Get Started” video?
DYLAN: A beautiful thing called “fate”! The song and video got passed around from person to person until we were contacted by the awesome people at Team Coco! Long live Conan. Man, I can’t wait to play his show!
GLITTER: Is it true that your dad was also a musician?
DYLAN: My father was the bassist and songwriter in the Midwest power-pop band, The Kind. He’s where the musical bug comes from in my family! He used to take me up on stage as a small child and I would play various instruments. It’s where I learned my stage presence from.
GLITTER: How would you describe your sound?
DYLAN: I’d call it Pop-Rock! Upbeat rocking rhythmic instruments with tons of melodic energy and sing-out-loud choruses! It’s like the excitement of having a birthday party mixed with the high of receiving a birthday present.
GLITTER: What has been the best surprise anyone has ever given you?
DYLAN: My dachshund named Portillo was a surprise gift (which I didn’t know when I picked him out when he was 5 days old). He’s been my son ever since!
GLITTER: Who is your dream collaboration with?
DYLAN: Members of Vampire Weekend, Fun., Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, and Ben Folds.
GLITTER: What’s one thing your fans might not know about you?
DYLAN: I’m an avid record collector and film buff! I have a deep knowledge of music history and I dig down to the barrels of 60s record collecting.
GLITTER: What do you have planned for the upcoming year?
DYLAN: I’m touring the United States with my bandmates playing, Adventures in Real Time, out live! First the USA, then…the world! Muahaha!
