Nathan Gamble can be seen in the Dolphin Tale movies, including the new Dolphin Tale 2, which hit theaters on September 12th. Glitter Magazine recently sat down with Nathan to talk about the film, what one message he hopes fans learn from watching this film, the hardest role he’s played so far, his secret man-crush, and what he loves to do in his downtime. Ladies, take note, he’s a huge football fan. And his favorite ice cream flavor? Let’s just say we approve of mixing those three together.

Glitter: You just completed filming the sequel to Dolphin Tale. What can you tell us about the movie?

Nathan: Dolphin Tale 2 is not really a sequel as it is a continuation of Winter’s real story. Like Dolphin Tale, it’s based on actual events. It’s crazy because a “sequel” to a real-life story has never been done before. Dolphin Tale 2 is basically a more mature movie than the first one. Winter is presented with a situation that she has to overcome. At the same time the kids, Sawyer and Hazel, have to deal with the challenges and struggles of growing up. They’re teenagers now…need I say more?

Glitter: After filming the first Dolphin Tale, what were you most looking forward to about filming Dolphin Tale 2?

Nathan: That’s easy, seeing my awesome cast and crew again! It was so cool to work with all of the same actors, but we were also blessed with almost all of the same crew, too. The toughest thing on a film is often developing chemistry with cast and the all-important tech crew. Dolphin Tale 2 was like a four-month family reunion. Oh, and I got to swim and basically play with the world’s most famous dolphin, Winter!

Glitter: What’s one message you hope fans learn from watching this film?

Nathan: Whatever your challenge is in life, and we all have them, you can overcome it. Winter is living and thriving without the most important part of herself. Her tail. Her strength and determination have inspired millions of people around the world. I’ve been truly blessed to see her power up close. It’s life-changing I tell you.

Glitter: After working on this film, you became the spokesperson for the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. What made you want to support this cause?

Nathan: That’s simple. Winter’s uncanny ability to inspire people with disabilities to keep fighting, keep struggling and most importantly, stay positive. I knew if I could have some small part with the work they do at Clearwater Marine Aquarium it would be an experience I’d always treasure.

Glitter: What do you enjoy most about your character, Sawyer?

Nathan: It’s funny because I’m not like Sawyer at all. I’m much less serious, love to laugh, and am not shy at all. So, he can be a challenge to play. I’d have to say what I admire about Sawyer is his loyalty and commitment to Winter. It’s very mature for a boy his age.

Glitter: What was the hardest role you’ve done so far?

Nathan: The old cliché about drama being easy and comedy being hard is definitely true. I was in a sitcom a few years back and it was the hardest experience I’ve had so far. Long days, high-pressure, live audiences, and tons of rewrites are some of the challenges. So, when you watch a sitcom, just know it’s not as easy as it looks!

Glitter: Aside from feature films you also appeared on several TV series. What was that like? Was it easier/harder filming a TV series rather than a movie?

Nathan: I’ve been blessed to work on some of the most popular TV shows of the last decade. With every TV experience I’ve learned new skills and grown as an actor. Like any job, it’s all about how well you get along with your boss and co-workers. If I could chose I’d pick the movie making experience. With movies, though they can be tedious to make, you have the luxury of developing relationships with your co-stars and crew. That makes it special to me.

Glitter: Are you currently working on any new projects you can share with your fans?

Nathan: I just filmed an episode of CSI for the new season. It was exciting to be part of this awesome show!

Glitter: What are some of your hobbies/interests when you’re not filming?

Nathan: I’m a huge football fan! Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Russell Wilson, is a hero of mine. He’s so dedicated to his craft, yet he makes time to visit kids at the local Children’s hospital every week. I’m also a big video gamer and I like to write, too.

Glitter: What would be your dream role? Anyone you would love to work with?

Nathan: I’d love to have a role in a great comedy. I’ve been in a ton of serious stuff so either something funny or an action film. Given that, I’d love to work with Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey, or Michael Bay.

Glitter: Favorite sport?

Nathan: Football! I’m a big baseball fan, too.

Glitter: Who would you love to meet and why?

Nathan: Well, it was Russell Wilson but I just met him at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Sports Awards and it was awesome! I couldn’t stop smiling for a week. He’s a super nice guy and it made my summer!

Glitter: Do you have a secret crush on anyone?

Nathan: I guess my Russell Wilson man-crush is not a secret so I’ll say Kate Winslet.

Glitter: What is your favorite subject in school?

Nathan: I love literature, history, and science…especially when you get to blow stuff up!

Glitter: Favorite flavor of ice cream?

Nathan: Coffee, chocolate and peanut butter… is that a flavor?
