David Mazouz On the new Fox series, Gotham!

DSC_8258-print-bwDavid Mazouz can be seen in the new Fox series, Gotham, which is a prequel to the Batman saga. David plays the role of Bruce Wayne as a child. Anyone who loves Batman and that whole world, will fall in love with this new show. David recently sat down with Glitter Magazine to talk about the show, who he plays, who he’d love to have dinner with, what it’s like to work alongside Ben McKensie and Jada Pinkett Smith, his favorite subjects in school, and his celebrity crushes. He loves all the actors from the CBS hit show, The Big Bang Theory, especially Jim Parsons, who is hilarious. We approve.

GLITTER: What can you tell us about the first season of Fox’s new series, Gotham? Who do you play?

DAVID: The first season of the new Fox show, Gotham, is a prequel to the Batman saga.   I’m playing the role of Bruce Wayne as a child and it begins with the murder of his parents.   The show is all about the different characters from the Batman stories and creates stories about what they were like before and how they became the people we came to know.

GLITTER: What is it like playing alongside Ben McKensie and Jada Pinkett Smith?

DAVID: So far, I haven’t worked alongside Jada yet, but I’ve met her of course and I would love to work with her so I’m hoping that I’ll be able to work directly with her at some point. She’s an extremely warm person and it’s amazing how she can transform herself into a scary mob boss on screen.  Working with Ben is really awesome.   Ben is a really professional, smart and warm guy and what you’ll see on screen is a real chemistry between us because I genuinely have a lot of respect for him and I definitely look up to him and think I can learn a lot from him. I feel really blessed to be working with people who are so professional and experienced.

GLITTER: Who would you love to have as a guest star on Gotham?

DAVID: I would love to have several people as guest stars on Gotham.   Kiefer Sutherland because I miss working with him and he’s an amazing dude and it would be even cooler if he could come on as Jack Bauer. I’d also love to have some of the other DC characters on also like Grant from the Flash or Steven from Arrow or a teenage Clark Kent who could visit.   That would be really cool.

GLITTER: Who has been your favorite co-star so far?

DAVID: We’ve only shot a few episodes but most of my scenes so far have been at home with my butler, Alfred, played by Sean Pertwee, who I’m having a ton of fun with.   I really like having a butler!  And, of course the scene with Ben from the pilot was a really fun scene to do because it was so emotional.

GLITTER: How did you get started in acting?

DAVID: I got into acting more as a hobby because my sister wanted to take a class and I was 5-years-old and she was eight. I followed her and wanted to do whatever she did so of course my mom dropped us both off. We didn’t have any plans to do it professionally, but it just kind of happened organically when one thing lead to another and an agent wanted me to audition so I started doing commercials. I always loved it so I just kept moving forward and kept going to class.

GLITTER: How long have you been doing Krav Maga? Did you start it for your role in Gotham or have you been doing it a lot longer?

DAVID: I actually just started taking Krav Maga classes. I just moved to New York a month ago and I don’t know very many people and am not in school yet so I wanted to do something on a regular basis so I decided to try it and I absolutely love it. I actually do think it’ll be helpful in this role although no one from production suggested it to me.

GLITTER: If you weren’t acting, what else would you love to do?

DAVID: If I weren’t acting, I guess I would be a student and go to school like other kids my age.   However, as far as work goes, I want to write, produce, and direct someday. That’s what I would do if I wasn’t acting. I do hope I can do those things someday as well. If I couldn’t do any of those things, I would want to be Batman!

GLITTER: What can you tell us about your upcoming projects, 6 Miranda Drive and Conversations with Andy?

DAVID: I just finished shooting 6 Miranda Drive a few months ago with Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell and Lucy Fry. It was a lot of fun working with those actors and the director was an amazing director to work with because he was very creative and easy to work with and it was a really easy going group of people. I can’t wait to see it. Just before that, I did a movie called Incarnate with Aaron Eckhart, which was also a cool film where I play a possessed kid. Both of those films should come out in 2015, but I wish it were sooner!

GLITTER: What is your favorite thing about the fall season?

DAVID: My favorite thing about the fall season this year will be finally seeing the leaves change color in New York since I’m from Los Angeles and we don’t really have a fall season.  If you’re talking about the fall season as in TV land, I’m excited to see all the new shows that will begin in September.  I can’t wait to see The Flash with Grant Gustin and my friend Tom Cavanagh and the beginning of all the shows I got hooked on last season that left on cliffhangers as well as the new shows that are about to begin, especially Gotham.

GLITTER: What are your favorite subjects in school?

DAVID: My favorite subject in school is math and history.  I’m really looking forward to learning American History.

GLITTER: If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?

DAVID: If I could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, I think I’d like to sit down with some of my ancestors from different generations. I think it would be really interesting to see how much we have in common since we’ve never met and it would have to be based on DNA rather than knowledge and relationships. I would also like to have dinner with Ben Affleck or Christian Bale so I can see my future self and learn to say “I am Batman” the right way!

GLITTER: Do you have a celeb crush on anyone?

DAVID: I have a lot of celebrity crushes. One of them is Yvonne Strahovski and Zack Levi from Chuck and all the actors from the Big Bang Theory, especially Jim Parsons! Don’t get me started though because now I’m thinking of a lot of people I would love to meet!  Hopefully I will.
