The book is set in New England, reminiscent of The Scarlet Letter. The setting is unclear, though it seems like it is set in the mid-to-late 1800s. Judith and her best friend disappear from Roswell Station and when Judith returns, her tongue cut out and she’s shut out by those who were once her friends who now treat her like a leper. When Roswell Station is attacked, secrets come to light and Judith must choose to stay silent or speak out, even if it means changing everyone’s life forever. This empowering mystery will grip at your heartstrings and keep you up all night long.
