REAL PEOPLE: Girls Who Inspire

Glitter recently sat down with fourteen-year-old Caroline, a model who suffered a spinal cord injury back in 2011 due to a car accident. But that didn’t hold back this brave girl from continuing her love for modeling and enjoying life like a normal teenage girl! Instead, she found a company PhotoAbility, who happen to be the only business that represents models with mobilities and disabilities and Caroline has been working with them ever since. Read her beautiful and inspiring interview below. We all can learn a little something from this GIRL WHO ROCKS! CAROLINE1

GLITTER: How did you first get started with modeling? Was this something you always wanted to do?

CAROLINE: The summer going into fourth grade, my sister and I entered a modeling contest at Six Flags New England. A few days later, John Casablancas Model and Talent Agency of Hartford, CT called me in for an interview.  I had just begun modeling a year before I was injured. I had never really thought about modeling prior to that day at Six Flags, but I had always thought it would be really cool to do some acting.

GLITTER: After your accident, were you hesitant on continuing your modeling career or did you want to jump right back in it?

CAROLINE: After my accident I asked my Mom if she thought I would still be able to model.  At the tIme there wasn’t much of a demand for modeling with a disability.  Although, I did get a job in a toy catalog shortly after my accident.

GLITTER: Do you find photos and photography therapeutic?

CAROLINE: I enjoy doing the photo shoots but I don’t personally consider it therapeutic.

GLITTER: Can you tell us more about how you discovered PhotoAbility and what inspired you to work with them?

CAROLINE: A friend of mine started modeling for Photoability and I decided to apply.  I really liked that they were helping to increase awareness of disability in the media.

GLITTER: What message do you hope to spread across to people dealing with the same situation?

CAROLINE:Don’t let your disability disable your dreams.

GLITTER: Aside from modeling, what other hobbies/interests do you enjoy?

CAROLINE:I love music, playing the piano, and swimming.

GLITTER: If you could do anything in the world as a profession, what would it be and why?

CAROLINE: Prior to my accident I wanted to be a Fashion Designer but after spending so much time in the hospital, I became really interested in the medical field. As a profession,  I would like to be a pediatric nurse practitioner and specialize in Neurology.

GLITTER:What is your biggest fear?

CAROLINE: Of course I do fear the things that every person would fear, like losing someone close to me, or dying, but why worry about the unknown and things that are beyond our control.  The only way to live life is to live in the moment.

GLITTER: How do you overcome obstacles that are in your way?

CAROLINE: I take things one day at a time.  I don’t worry about what is going to happen in the future.  I try to stay focused on what is happening right now.

GLITTER: Who inspires you the most?

CAROLINE: My older sister Brittany because ever since I was little, I have always tried to be like her. Every time I need advice, I go to her because she always knows the right thing to say. My sister inspires me to be myself and not worry about what other people think.

GLITTER: How would you describe a Girl Who Rocks?

CAROLINE: A Girl who doesn’t let anyone or anything get in the way of what she wants to do.
