Lights Camera Cure: The Hollywood Dance Marathon

Lights Camera Cure (LCC) is a Los Angeles-based charitable organization whose mission is to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer patient support and research through community based fundraising and service activities. The Hollywood Dance Marathon is a high-energy dance party charity event featuring participants that sign up to dance and raise money from family and friends.

In its first three years, the event has raised nearly $200,000 to help kids with cancer.

How great is that?

The Hollywood Dance Marathon was started in 2011 by a group of alumni from Penn State University living in Los Angeles. The group was inspired by THON, the Penn State Student Dance Marathon held at the school’s campus each February. THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, raising over $100 million to help kids with cancer in its 40-year history, including $13.5 million last year. All proceeds from THON go to The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.

Last year’s event included:

  • Over 220 official Dancers wearing the dancer t-shirt (every year the dancer shirt color changes — this year was neon green)
  • Total attendance of approximately 1,000 people including Dancers, ticket purchasers, VIP’s & celebrities, and other guests
  • Entertainment including 3 musical artists, 2 bands, 5 DJ’s and a hip-hop dance group
  • Celebrity hosts including Taylor Spreitler (“Melissa & Joey”), Sandra Mitchell (KCAL News), Amy Paffrath (TV Host), Gia Mantegna (“The Prince”), and Devon Werkheiser (“I Brake for Gringos”)
  • Celebrities supporters including Grammy-winner Moby, Ian Harding (“Pretty Little Liars”), Melissa Joan Hart (“Melissa & Joey”), Joe Mantegna (“Criminal Minds”), Drew Seeley (“Glory Daze”), Adam Sevani (“Step Up: All In”), Christine Lakin (“Melissa & Joey”), and Alyson Stoner (“Step Up: All In”)

This years Hollywood dance marathon will take place on March 21, 2015!

Giving back and raising awareness is easy and extremely rewarding in the end,

and what better way to do it than by dancing?!
