Glitter Magazine recently sat down with the guys of MKTO, Tony Oller and Malcolm Kelly. Both met on the set of Teen Nick’s Gigantic in 2010, but in between takes the duo couldn’t stop talking about the one thing they loved besides acting: making music.

MKTO have seen international success with multi-platinum top 10 singles in Australia and New Zealand, garnering a dedicated and loyal fanbase along the way and amassing already over 1 million record sales worldwide.  Tony and Malcolm talk about their new album, MKTO, what fans can expect, being nominated for a Disney Music award, and how fans can follow them. Note: they follow back. Make sure to read on about this amazing duo. If you haven’t picked up their album yet, run, don’t walk to pick it up.

GLITTER: Tell us about your new album, MKTO. For those who haven’t heard it yet, what can they expect?

TONY: Basically the feelings and emotions we’ve been through in a year’s time. We wanted to be in the moment and express what we were going through whether it was serious or a little funny and not go for one type of sound.

GLITTER: What was the most challenging part about making an album?

MALCOLM: The hardest thing about making this album was just making sure the music was up to par. Being actors and jumping into music we kind of feel like underdogs in a sense and wanted to prove that we can do this. We love music so we got to take our time. We didn’t have a deadline for this album. We didn’t rush, which made it very organic and also great stories to listen to. We spent about a year making this album and are very proud of it. We call it our baby, watching it grow.

GLITTER: What are some of your favorite songs from your album?

TONY: “Wasted” was the closest to my heart, but I’d never describe it because it’s a story the listener has to figure out. “American Dream” is definitely another favorite of mine.

GLITTER: You also have some collaborations on the album. How did it feel working with Ne-Yo on a track?

MALCOLM: Man it was Amazing very inspiring and just dope to be on a song with him. Our producers of MKTO have worked with everybody so Ne-Yo was a phone call away and next thing we know we were in the studio with him. “Could be Me” is one of my favorite songs on the album to actually have written and be on it with him.

GLITTER: Your song “Classic” was nominated for a Radio Disney music award. How did that feel?

TONY: Awesome! Just feels good to know our music is reaching so many kids, and an honor to be nominated.

GLITTER: What is the best part of performing for your fans?

MALCOLM: I think the best part has been since the album has been out and just spreading the word and having the fans sing along with us at the shows. I mean there isn’t a better feeling of a crowd singing a song u wrote so that feels good and to ensure everybody is having a good time.

GLITTER: Is singing something you’ve always wanted to do?

TONY: All I’ve ever wanted to do was whatever makes me happy, and right now it’s singing and makin’ music.

GLITTER: How can fans get your attention?

MALCOLM: There are a lot of ways fans can get out attention. Definitely bringing signs to the shows. We have seen some great ones with lights. I love it when fans take the time to do something nice. Or when the fans have some of our shirts on. I love that. We are def. big on the social media: Twitter, IG…Everybody knows I’ll RT something I like and respond. I love being able to talk to fans, before Twitter you couldn’t. So I love it and love you all. Follow us if you aren’t!!! (Wearemkto) (therealmalcolm) (FollowOller) all same for both Twitter and IG!
