Glitter Magazine chatted with Perrie Edwards from Little Mix about their second album Salute that debuted #1, what its like to be in a girl group, and writing songs! We love Little Mix and we know you do too, so check it out below.

GLITTER: Congrats on your new album! How would you describe the sound for this album compared to your debut album?

PERRIE: Aw, thank you! The new album is more mature, more R&B. We’ve grown a lot on this album. We grew a lot on the last album too, but this one just felt like it came from us even more so we are just so proud of it. We love this album.

GLITTER:What are you favorite tracks from this album? Do you have any favorite songs?

PERRIE: My favorites change every day. It depends on what mood I’m in. “Salute” is probably my all-time favorite from the album. Every time we perform it, I just get so excited.

GLITTER:So cool. Tell us about the title, Salute. What does it mean to you?

PERRIE: We got Salute from the single because it’s the first song on the album, and it’s very empowering, very powerful, and very sassy and we just thought it was such a good name for the album. We loved the way it sounded.

GLITTER:Salute actually went to #1 on iTunes! How did that feel?

PERRIE: If you were a fly on the wall, you would be laughing at us. We were just screaming in the car. It was amazing.

GLITTERDo you have a song that you think will be the next single?

PERRIE: I think we have an idea. We know what we want for the next single, so we will see.

GLITTER:Your song, “Little Me,” is said to be a “Change Your Life” 2.0 song. What was the inspiration in writing this song?

PERRIE: We all went through stuff when we were younger. We always get asked, “If you could go back in time and tell your 12-year-old self one thing, what would you tell them?” and this song is our answer. When we were younger, you always say, “Oh, I wish I had someone to tell me this.” We know our fans really listen to our music and get inspired by it so that’s why we wrote that song. We always write for our fans.

GLITTER:Have you had any crazy fan experiences while being on tour?

PERRIE: All of our fans in America are so supportive. We love how crazy they are. Our fans just make us feel so good and confident. We love meeting our fans.

GLITTER:Were you nervous about releasing the album at all, or just excited?

PERRIE: I think it was a bit of both. I think we were nervous because we already had an album out, and people have expectations, but we are very happy about this album. We were ready because we were happy with it.

GLITTER: Is it crazy to think of how your life has changed since your first album?

PERRIE: Yeah, it’s really strange. I feel like everything is going so fast. I feel like from the first album to now, we’ve just matured more and we’re happier with ourselves now, and our fan base has widened. Just everything is really good at the moment, and we never for a moment thought that it would be as big as this. We just want to keep working hard and hopefully keep getting better and better.

GLITTER:You have been performing your songs on tour. Is there a crowd favorite that everyone loves to hear?

PERRIE: I think everyone loves our first single, because everyone sings along and gets really excited. But whenever we introduce new ones, the fans just go crazy. If you just say, “Everyone this is new!” they just go wild. We love that. When we sing “Change Your Life” from the first album, everyone cries. I think all of our songs are amazing live.

GLITTER:How do you prepare for tour?

PERRIE: Lots, and lots, and lots of rehearsal. We make sure that we got the harmonizing right, and we got massive amounts of choreography so we have to practice our routines. It’s a lot to take in, and it’s hard to sing and dance at the same time because you get out of breath, so it’s really hard. We try to go to the gym to get in shape. You want your fans to see your best, really.

GLITTER:Do you still get butterflies? It’s probably really comforting to have the other girls on stage, though.

PERRIE: It is. I’m always, always nervous. Jesy is always like, “Why are you nervous Perrie?” But I feel like nerves helped a little in the performance to do your best.

GLITTER:Was it hard to be in a girl band at first and pour your heart out into song writing with other people?

PERRIE: The lucky thing with us is, that we clicked right away. We are all different, but very similar at the same time. We just have so much fun, and before we go to the studio we talk about really sad things, or relationships, anything so we can write a song about it. We are very open with each other. We talk about everything. I think it makes our song writing better if you can talk about those experiences.

GLITTER:What would you tell your fans about this album? Why do they need to hear this?

PERRIE: Because it’s such a cool, fun album. We want our fans to listen to it and be inspired by our music. We love our fans so much, and most of the songs that we write are for them. Our music speaks to our fans, and we want to see them through. That’s why they should listen to the album.
