Cody Simpson MAIN PUB - Credit Harper SmithGlitter Magazine loves heartthrob, Cody Simpson. He grew up listening to country music and Jack Johnson and his tours are super energetic. Cody spills about how he performs for his shows, his favorite songs off of his latest album, Surfers Paradise, how his fans inspire his music, and how he helped his younger sister, Alli, debut her new single, “Notice Me.” We tried to get him to dish on his celebrity crush, but he wouldn’t. It’s a secret. Maybe someday he’ll spill. In the meantime, read on to read all about our favorite heartthrob.

GLITTER: Last time we spoke, you said you grew up listening to country and Jack Johnson. What kind of country did you listen to?
CODY: I loved Johnny Cash, also some of the old hillbilly tunes that my dad and grandma listened to from Hank Williams. I later became a big Keith Urban fan. Keith was the first concert my parents ever took me to!

GLITTER: What about country music drew you in?
CODY: The storytelling and the heart-felt lyrics, for sure. Also, the always catchy and memorable melodies.

GLITTER: Did you ever consider doing a country album?
CODY: Nope, not at the moment, but you never know what kind of childhood influences will creep back into my music in the future!

GLITTER: Are your tours normally super energetic?
CODY: Yes, we have a lot of fun and work really hard to make sure my audience has a heap of fun also.

GLITTER: How do you get ready to perform for a show?
CODY: I drink throat coat tea before every show, and I have an essential, including vocal warm-ups, stretching, and a quick run through of my guitar parts and choreography. Above all, I just love to be alone for a half hour before I hit the stage to mentally prepare also.

GLITTER: Your sophomore album, Surfers Paradise, released in July. What are some of your favorite songs off of the album?
CODY: I love “La Da Dee” and “Pretty Brown Eyes” because of the catchy grooves. To be honest every single track on the album is precious to me in a different way, and I really encourage everyone to listen through the record top to bottom.

GLITTER: Do your fans inspire your music?
CODY: Definitely. They keep me going. And you may have noticed that most of my songs are about ladies?!

GLITTER: What songs have music video counterparts and which of those was your favorite to make and why?
CODY: All of my singles have music videos. I enjoy all of them because I have had the chance to work with some really cool and creative people. It’s a pleasure to write a song, which is all audio and then have someone else creative that believes and can envisage the visual to accompany your song.

GLITTER: You helped your little sister, Alli, preview her new single, “Notice Me,” on the internet. What was that like?
CODY: I can’t wait for you to hear this song and to see the video. It’s a smash and I’m a proud big brother.

GLITTER: Have you given her career advice?
CODY: I tell her to be herself and to simply have fun doing what she’s doing. All that comes along with it is a bonus.

GLITTER: Are you and your sister close?
CODY: I think we are as close as a brother and sister could be. We are best friends. We always have each other’s backs.

GLITTER: Do you ever collaborate on anything together?
CODY: We haven’t recorded a song yet, but perhaps that is coming. We sometimes sing casual duets at home for kicks.

GLITTER: How do you steal girls’ hearts?
CODY: If you give yourself, it isn’t stealing. I love my Angels.

GLITTER: How does it feel to be considered a “heartthrob”?
CODY: It’s kinda surreal. I personally don’t consider myself a heartthrob. Just a guy who does what he does and I am glad that people dig it!

GLITTER: Is it true that you’re already in studio working on another album?
CODY: Absolutely. I think we already have an amazing single for next year. So stoked for you to hear it as the music is really evolving quickly.

GLITTER: If you could perform a duet with anyone, who would it be and why?
CODY: Elvis Presley or MJ. Two of the most influential ever; and I guess you always want what you can’t have.

GLITTER: Do you have any celebrity crushes?
CODY: Secret.
