Interview with Stefanie Scott!

Stefanie Scott began her acting career four years ago with a role on the television show, Chuck.  Since then, she has been in films such as Flipped (2010), for which she won a Young Artist Award, and No Strings Attached (2011).  She currently plays the popular “Lexi Reed” on Disney’s hit show A.N.T. Farm, where she gets to sing as well. Stefanie also starred in Disney’s  film, Frenemies!  How does Stefanie handle frenemies?  Read Glitter’s exclusive interview below to find out!

GLITTER: Who is Lexi Reed and in what way can you relate to her?
STEFANIE: Lexi Reed is the Queen Bee, President of Student Council at Webster High and is Über popular. She is manipulative in a mischievous way. She is accustomed to being the winner, # 1 at everything and the Lead in all the high school musicals. She is frustrated when Chyna Parks enters the school and realizes there is someone trying to steal everything away from her. In my mind I believe that Lexi really has a warm heart underneath her façade of ruthlessness. I believe her parents are the root of her cut-throat ways, probably because they want her to get into an ivy-league school. So I think Lexi is really trying to be the winner at everything to please her parents. I can relate to Lexi because she never gives up.  Even though she and I are nothing alike (except we both love Broadway musicals) I still understand her for her determination and persistence.

GLITTER: What is it like behind the scenes of A.N.T. Farm?
STEFANIE: We are pretty busy! We start school at 7:30am and have to get our school done before we even start work for the day.  We rehearse Monday – Wednesday and then we film the show Thursday and Friday.  Friday we film in front of a live studio audience and that is AWESOME! We also get to meet the audience and sign autographs after the show is done filming so that is always my favorite part! There is a ball pit upstairs outside of the writer’s room we sometimes run up there in between work and jump into the ball pit. There is also a basketball court outside [where] we often “shoot hoops” after lunch.

GLITTER: Describe your character, Julianne, in the upcoming Frenemies.
STEFANIE: Julianne is a little self-centered and seems she will twist the rules to get whatever she wants.  She is manipulative and two-faced. She might seem like your friend at times but just when you least expecting it can turn into your enemy.  We’ve all known people like that haven’t we?

GLITTER: How do you handle frenemies in your own life?
STEFANIE: I have made a very conscious decision to not hang out with people who aren’t really my friend. I have a very small handful of friends who I trust and who trust me. We watch out for each other and support each other through good and bad. I think it’s much better to just have a few real, true, honest friends than a load of people who just pretend to be your friend.

GLITTER: As a songwriter, where do you draw inspiration for your lyrics?
STEFANIE: Life!  Everyday! The good and the bad things that happen can inspire a song. Sometimes I will just start with a single word and then the story comes from there. I have a book full of song ideas which I jot down whenever they pop into my head – and most often that happens at the randomest time!

GLITTER: How did you get started in the music business?
STEFANIE: A producer heard me sing at a live performance and suggested I get into the studio to record. I love going into the studio and singing, taking direction from the producer and creating a song with my own sound. I am grateful to have had this opportunity and hope to continue with my music alongside my acting career.

GLITTER: If you could remake any role, which would it be and why?
STEFANIE: Hmmmm….that’s a hard one because any role I would want to remake probably comes from a classic, mega-hit and those are really hard to remake better than the original.  But probably a musical of some sort which might be able to be re-made for present day, with a more modern day sound like Bye Bye Birdie or West Side Story.

GLITTER: What do you hope to be doing in 5 years?
STEFANIE: I plan on continuing my acting career and to do more feature films. College is of course in my future as I hope to attend either Northwestern University in Chicago or UCLA’s film school. I think college is very important and [I] am looking forward to having a college experience.

GLITTER: What advice do you have for other Girls Who Rock who are interested in pursuing an acting career?
STEFANIE: A lot of girls have emailed me and tell me they don’t think they can follow their dreams because they don’t live in L.A. But I am living proof that even coming from a very small town (Indialantic FL) you can pursue your dreams with hard work and persistence. My advice would be to start taking acting classes or sign up for a local theatre group. Even small towns usually have this. I would also sign up for vocal lessons and dance lessons and it is good to be all around experienced.   Also, with the internet you can take classes with coaches via skype or iChat now so the world is at your fingertips! Last but most important, be patient, have persistence and determination and surround yourself with friends who believe in you!
