Singer and Actor Cymphonique, aka Cymphonique Miller, has spent her whole life surrounded by great musical performers (including her father Master P and brother Lil Romeo).  Having toured with groups such as Raven-Symoné, Demi Lovato, and the College Boyys, Cymphonique is now striking out on her own with hits like “Butterflies” and “Lil Miss Swaggar.” And her song, “Something,” even won her a BET nomination for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist! Don’t miss her highly anticipated Nickelodeon show, “How to Rock, “which premieres in February! Read Glitter’s exclusive interview below to find out more about this rising young star!

GLITTER: Describe your character, Kacey Simon.
CYMPHONIQUE: Kacey is very passionate. She loves her friends, she loves to sing, and she’s very outgoing. Overall, she’s just a very strong character.

GLITTER: In what way(s) does the television show follow the original book, Meg Haston’s How to Rock Braces and Glasses?
CYMPHONIQUE: It follows it pretty well. Just like in the book, Kacey used to be the most popular girl in school and starts off as a mean girl. When she gets into an accident, she has to wear braces and big glasses and her whole world pretty much turns around.  She then makes friends with people who love her no matter what, and becomes the lead singer of their band. From there, she discovers her love of singing and decides to follow her dreams without caring about what other people think of her. It has comedy and it also has drama. But it’s also very relatable and has a positive message.

GLITTER: What / who are your musical inspirations?
CYMPHONIQUE: I’m very inspired by Michael Jackson. He’ll always be one of my favorites. I also love Mariah Carey.

GLITTER: You come from a talented musical family. How was music integrated into your childhood? What is your first memory involving music?
CYMPHONIQUE: I really loved to sing, dance, and act. I sang in the church all the time. Growing up, I really didn’t know that music was something that I wanted to get into. But there was always something in me, this passion for music that I always had.

GLITTER: As “Lil Miss Swaggar,” you have been busy developing your own personal style. What advice would you give to other teens about developing personal style? Why is it important?
CYMPHONIQUE: Find what you’re comfortable in and just be yourself. All teens have difficulties with their insecurities, but it’s just so important to express your individuality and love yourself despite what others think.

GLITTER: Describe your style in 3 words.
CYMPHONIQUE: For both music and fashion, my style is pop, R&B, and hip hop.

GLITTER: If you could collaborate with any high end fashion designer to create a fashion line, whom would you choose? And why?
CYMPHONIQUE: My style is very fun and unique, so I’d love to work with someone who has that similar taste.

GLITTER: What is the BYOU clothing line?
CYMPHONIQUE: The Be Your Own You clothing line was made to help girls facing low self esteem issues find empowerment. It’s a line that is cute and stylish, but also has meaning behind it. You don’t have to be something else, just be you.

GLITTER: Tell us about the book series you created to empower young girls, Fabulous Girls.
CYMPHONIQUE: I’m always inspired to help other people. I’ve seen girls who have been in trouble, who’ve been abused, or who are dealing with school bullies. So I wanted to find something that would help girls going through things like that find some positivity and help build their self esteem.

GLITTER: What advice do you have for other Girls Who Rock on becoming a performer?
CYMPHONIQUE: Always be passionate. If you love something, you have to put your whole heart into it and never give up. You just need to follow your dream and live it.
