Interview with Debby Ryan!

Debby Ryan has been busy since her breakout role as Bailey Pickett on Disney’s The Suite Life on Deck (2008 – 2010), starring in the hit TV movies, 16 Wishes (2010) and The Suite Life Movie (2011), and making guest appearances on several TV series. In 2011, she was given the title role in Disney’s new series, Jessie, a show about a nanny, born and raised in TX, who works for a wealthy, jet-setting family with four very energetic children in New York City. What’s next for Debby? Read Glitter’s exclusive interview to find out!

GLITTER: Congratulations on your new Disney Channel series “Jessie.” How would you describe your character, Jessie? Can you relate to her in anyway?
DEBBY: Jessie is a strong girl from a military family who has a soft spot for the kids she nannies for. She is quirky and confident and maybe she’s not the best nanny in the world, but at the end of the day her love for the kids makes everything OK. I do relate to her. We both have big hearts, but we are tough girls.

GLITTER: What can we expect from the next episodes of “Jessie?”
DEBBY: In the next few episodes of “Jessie,” expect a lot of mayhem. Each of the four kids has their own life and hobbies, so there are fun stories interweaved in each episode. Tony and Jessie are beginning to fall for one another and figuring out how to make a possible relationship work with such crazy lives. Also, viewers and fans will soon see Jessie finding out more about who she really is and what matters to her as far as her life in New York City.

GLITTER: Growing up, did you ever think that you would be an actress and singer?
DEBBY: I think I always knew I’d be an entertainer. When I was performing, I truly felt comfortable. But I didn’t think that acting was an actual career that people could do with their lives and then pay bills. I thought I’d have to fit it in as a hobby after shifts in the ER, I was going to be a surgeon.

GLITTER: You played the lead in the Disney Channel movie, “16 Wishes.” How does that differ from filming a series such as “Jessie” and “The Suite Life On Deck?”
DEBBY: With TV shows, the story goes joke to joke and funny circumstance to funny circumstance. TV shows are more about the characters and a movie is about telling a story and taking a voyage. Plus, the schedule is different and unpredictable when you are on a movie.

GLITTER: Can you tell your fans about your new movie “Radio Rebel” (2012)? What’s your character like?
DEBBY: It’s a story about what happens when a group of high school seniors in Seattle have their worlds rocked by an internet radio/DJ phenomenon who creates an uprising. I play Tara, who is painfully shy, but has a strong voice and vision. So, she’s learning how to bridge her two worlds.

GLITTER: What advice can you offer to others on living their dreams?
DEBBY: There will always be people who tell you it’s impossible and that doing something that hasn’t been done before is a bad thing…Don’t listen to them!

GLITTER: What is your number one beauty must have?
DEBBY: Strawberry Chap Stick is my number one beauty must have. It’s easy, brings out some color and tastes good!

GLITTER: When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?
DEBBY: I write a lot of music, I write my blog, journal a lot and I am working on a possible book concept. I’ve also recently pitched some scripts. I especially love to have my friends come over and watch movies, play in the ball pit and eat s‘mores.
