Dealing with Bullies!

Are you dealing with a bully? Are you afraid to go back to school this year because of someone who tormented you last year? Have no fear! Bullying is not tolerated and you can learn ways to get this unnecessary nuisance out of your life! Girls Who Rock empower themselves to deal with bullies!

 

Ever feel sad, hurt, or scared because of one of your classmates’ or peers’ abusive actions toward you? You are not alone. Bullying happens in schools nationwide everyday and, with the support of others, you can stop it in its tracks. Three out of four American children say they have been bullied or teased.

Kids feel unhappy when they are being bullied or when they are being a bully. This can cause negative stress on everyone involved. Bullying is not just the practical jokes you see on TV; bullying is any kind of emotional, verbal, and physical abuse. Bullying also includes being harassed on the Internet, also known as cyber-bullying.

If you are being bullied, there are many options for getting help. One is to set up a support system among your friends (be a buddy and find a buddy), because bulies are less likely to attack when you are in a group. Get involved, show support for the kid being bullied, and create a zone of safety among your friends. Telling an adult is another great way to stop bullying: this gives you an opportunity to express your feelings and provides an authoritative voice in confronting the bully. If you are a bully, try to find other, healthier ways and resources for addressing fear, rage, judgment, and other upsetting emotions you may be feeling and, in turn, are causing others to feel.
