RPS Designer Tules Yegin!

The creative force behind R.P.S, which stands for Rock Paper Scissors, is 25-year-old Tules Yegin. Originally from Turkey, fashion has always been incorporated into her everyday life. Having a vast history in fashion production and merchandising, Tules’ parents paved the way for her interest in the fashion industry. While attending Fashion Institute of Technology, she interned at Lea Rose and Melinda Eng. Upon graduating with a Bachelor’s in Design and Production, Tules designed for contemporary lines, Boy Meets Girls and Couture Concept.

“A young contemporary collection that puts a fashion-forward spin on classic, preppy looks, making it easy for individuals to express their own personal sense of style” is what R.P.S is all about. Many of the key pieces are graphic tees, tanks, blouses, shorts and skirts. The inspiration for this collection is Victorian-era meets Rock and Roll. Tules Yegin not only wants R.P.S. to be in every girl’s wardrobe, she also wants her brand to stay on the cutting edge of what’s now and what’s next. R.P.S first collection will be launched in Spring 2011.

What does R.P.S stand for?
Rock. Paper. Scissors!

How old were you when you started your line?
24

Is it safe to say that you were “born into the business of fashion”?
Born and raised, every aspect of this industry has been my passion since I can remember.

Who are your favorite fashion designers and why?
Right now my favorite upcoming designer is Sandra Backlund. This Swedish designer’s main focus is the handicraft process of hand knits and experimenting with a lot of different materials and techniques, but it is her three-dimensional collage knitting that is most significant. However, my two all time favorite designers are Proenza Schouler for giving a thoughtful, inventive and desirable approach to couture and Dries Van Noten for pushing the envelope.

Where did you go to school?
Fashion Institute of Technology

What is your favorite food?
Mac and Cheese. Since the day I moved to NYC I have always been on a never-ending search for the perfect mac and cheese. I think I have a list of 150 locations, obviously the top 5 rotate as the search continues.

Where do you see R.P.S in 5 years?
World take over! Haha just kidding, in a realistic sense I hope to see R.P.S  in every girl’s wardrobe. I truly believe it’s a line that can fit in with any girl’s style.

Justin Bieber or Justin Timberlake? As you can see the theme is a pop star named “Justin”.
Definitely Justin Timberlake. I recently saw the movie “Just Go With It” and I completely agree with Brooklyn Decker’s character when she said, “It was a tragedy that N’SYNC broke up.” But if this were a contest for hair, Justin Bieber would win. He always rocks a killer hairstyle!

In what stores can we shop for R.P.S?
We proudly just launched our online store www.rpsaddict.com!! But our big stores right now are Fred Segal, National Jean Company, Havana Jeans and Loves Creations.

Any advice for GIRLS WHO ROCK, who are aspiring designers? Don’t be afraid to just go for it! When I was 12, I decided I wanted to learn how to sew. My mother didn’t know how so I made her take me to the local craft store. The same goes for when I wanted to learn how to knit. I literally went online and followed the videos to learn how. When I turned 16, I found out a local university was offering Saturday fashion design classes for high school students. Even during high school, I remember calling hundreds of designers for a chance to intern for them after school. That how I started my very first internship at 17 for Lela Rose.
