Haley of Peach Moon Photography

Haley of Peach Moon Photography filled us in on what it’s like to be a teenager with a mission in photography.

Read her interview below, to see if you have what it takes to conquer your fears and embrace your passion! Read about a day in the life of Peach Moon Photography!
What is your background and how has it influenced your style? My father is a retired Navy officer, so I was born in Washington, and moved throughout the outskirts of America. I grew up mostly in Georgia and Michigan, however.

How did you get into photography?

I first got into photography around the age of 10 when my sister took a high school course in it. She always loved it, so i knew it must be amazing. When i tried it, it just clicked. I can show everyone how I see things and how my mind works. I fear i am no good at anything else, now!

Where do you shop on the regular for stylish finds? In my area of Michigan, there aren’t great places to shop. My usual finds come from my favorite store, H&M. Besides that, I find little treasures in every store, almost. And i LOVE buying vintage and antique clothing from local vendors.
Who are you fav designers?
My favorite would have to be Betsy Johnson. She is so bold and creative. Id wear a lot of her clothing. Haha.

Is this your career or a hobby?

Well.. I don’t currently own my own camera so it is hard for me to spend forever on projects. But when I do have a camera (i borrow a rich man’s and the school’s.) I spend usually a day or so photographing out on the town or event, and then weeks editing them and matting them and making them perfect. Typically I can spend up to 6 hours on one photo.

What are your passions in life?
Photography, obviously. Anything to do with the arts. I am also a singer. I love to sing and have been with singing even longer. I have a folk band with a friend of mine, actually. And i compete in honors choirs and so on.

What advice can you give to a teen interested in becoming a photographer?
Don’t be a carbon copy trend follower! That is half of the reason there are teen photographers today. If you don’t have passion, you won’t have art. Always stick with it, and stretch the limits, and find yourself in your photos.

What’s on your MP3 currently?
Mount Wroclai – Beirut.

What do you do on your down time? Take photos, sing, watch movies with pals, play video games, go to shows.

Do you watch tv if is so which channels?
I am a sucker for some Disney Channel and Nickelodeon shows. I watch America’s Next Top Model religiously. Adult Swim. The Office.

What moves you to succeed on a daily basis? I come from a family that doesn’t have much money. At first I tried everything just to see what I was good enough at to rely on to make a living and go to college. And now that I have found that skill, I still need to work towards having a productive life. But passion of the art over rules everything. I couldn’t stop even if i wanted to.

Any other ventures? I’ve always also dreamed of perusing modeling. haha /blush.

What software do u work with?
Adobe Photoshop CS2 and 3.

Who are your influences and why? Everyone around me.
Everyone creates the photos I shoot.

What are the major themes in your work? I often shoot children and people. But more often i photograph things from a Macro eye. That is my favorite thing to do.
